Lasers operate by harnessing light energy using a particular type of medium and different lasers are based on their particular wavelength of light. The Solea CO2 laser operates at 9,300 nanometers and uses carbon dioxide as it's medium. It is the most recently developed and was approved by the FDA in 2013 for cutting both hard and soft tissue.
At this particular wavelength of light the light energy provides analgesia to the tissue. In removing dental caries (cavities) the nerve signal from the tooth to the brain is blocked. Primary teeth are extremely receptive to this light energy and I have not had to give a child a needle to provide anesthesia in two years, except for extractions,
